With this blog AMG enters a new phase, covering three distinct stages:
Stage One
A renewed commitment to examining the arts, starting with a triple-review series covering Pan's Labyrinth (a movie), The New Friars (a book), and Balancing Act (a CD). The three reviews will be up sometime in the next two weeks.
Furthermore, I want to engage the topic of the arts as a whole, both through round-table discussions with new blog contributors (see Stage Two) and through the process of figuring out just what it means to thoughtfully observe, interpret, and create art. My hope is that I can offer some sort of clarity--or at least bring up the right questions--on the subjects of 1) what it means to be a Christian involved in the arts, and 2) whether or not it is possible to pursue arts on an ars gratia artis basis--both from the viewpoint of creators and connoisseurs.
Stage Two
An expansion from just my disjointed ramblings and incoherent thoughts to a broader--yet more focused--set of discussions between different contributors. My roommate has graciously added his brilliance to the blog, and I've asked another friend to help as well. This will enrich the perspectives we each bring to the blog, as well as expand the topics covered--not to mention that I will update more consistently!
Currently, my focus incorporates three distinct categories: 1) Christian thought and practice, 2) Christianity and the arts, and 3) missions worldwide, particularly lesser-known endeavors and cutting edge innovations.
To this end my roommate Ben has already posted his first blog entry.
Stage Three
A commitment to move from mere words (which, obviously, is one of the drawbacks of blogging) and enter the grit and grime of practical, tangible, everyday action. What good are concepts if they are never put into practice? An ideal is useless apart from action.
My hope is to enlarge the mission of AMG so that it incorporates a network of individuals webbed together into a community of faith put into practice for the sake of advancing the Kingdom of God.
